It depends on where you're trying to go. Some star systems are considerably more dangerous and you'd be more likely to be attacked.

There are ships that can take people around in the safer areas.

Yeah, I imagine people aren't risking their lives for a chance to go to a festival.

People have a stronger self-preservation instinct than that.
