[ you know i hadn't even read the description for the lighthouse and now that i read it. bad. taair does Not Like this. at all. in fact, he emotionshares, briefly, this awful, deep-set feeling of Dread at the feeling of being watched. ]
Ah...
[ nope! being watched in a tower? don't like that! ]
[ and so like a fire emblem we go to the safety of school where only activities happen per day and no one is dying usually
anyway. yay the academy!!! taair does in fact love it here, and it is slightly less creepy. he's paying close attention as they walk towards the actual school building just in case something tries to leap out of them, but for the most part... ]
Mm. It's incredible - a school where anyone can attend, and the study of magic is encouraged. Not only that, but it's free and accessible to all citizens, not just to nobility. Can you imagine how much of a benefit something like this could be? It does truly feel like paradise.
[ Walking around... Wow. He can remember his school days. ]
It is pretty incredible. I remember talking to Laurence when we first arrived and he mentioned it's common for the entire population to get an education, and that in fact, most people don't work until they're over 20.
[ said softly, because. wow. especially thinking about his homeland - about the common folk, let alone those of the lowest means. taair falls quiet for a moment, considering it, considering the school and their group of teens, and everything so far. ]
... It brings me hope, I think. This, and stories like that... it makes the most impossible dreams feel closer. Even if it takes work and infrastructure and time.
some of that joy and warmth falls away, and he looks off to the window of the academy. ]
...I will, yes. Things are bad, and while I doubt my death changed anything...if time resets to where I was, then that is an opportunity to try again. I cannot imagine that things have gotten any better, and I do not know if I could even change anything, but... I will not deny my nation one last opportunity for peace.
[ because boy it was Bleak back in iria. sometimes your canon point is the bad end for a route yay ] And you, Claude?
I'm going to go back too, I can't leave the war effort where it is now. [ THEM SHAKING HANDS OVER WAR ] I wanted to ask... Do you have any allies with you? I know I saw some companions in that memory of yours, but what about with you in Iria?
...the thing is that I - am not in Iria, technically. When I return, it will be back to Rodinia - the Papal States - and back to Lady Caris.
[ distantly, claude can see a flash of a thoughtshare - the windows of the room, suddenly overlayed with intricate, curved golden bars, then gone. a bird in the birdcage. ]
I cannot remember how much I have shared with you of my situation, but... She wishes for me to take the throne, if she can get rid of Princess Inanna, the final remaining heir of the Zenobia family that currently rules Iria. Princess Inanna and I are...I met her, on my two weeks away, and I believe that she is wonderful, and would be - and is - an incredible ruler for the Kingdom.
So... the answer is a bit more complicated than you would think. I do have an ally, between her and the leader of Convallaria Town, but... Lady Caris has long since woven the threads of her spiderweb, one that she has been patiently placing since I came into her arms as a child. All that awaits her to my return is to strike. She had the other two heirs, the prince regent and his younger brother, assassinated barely a few months ago, and even the Leader of Convallaria is bent to many of her whims through the town he cares for's close economic and relationship with the Papal States.
It is a dire situation. I do not take the throne by my own choice, or by my own power. Rather, I am expected to be installed upon the throne to be her, and the old aristocracy's, pawn.
week 7, monday, lighthouse
Not quite as charming as I remember.
