There is definitely such a thing as being too soft. We have to live in the world as it exists. Maybe Charlie would have me hug and forgive every goblin cultist I encounter, but sometimes just killing them is a lot faster, and there are time pressures.
But I don't think caring about the people around you is a softness you will come to regret.
